10 Most Anticipated Mystery & Thriller Books in 2019

Who doesn’t need to grab a good mystery & thriller book before leaving for vacation time? I was looking for different genres to pack and I’m pretty excited because this year a fantastic selection of M&T titles have come out to the world, with their engaging storylines that hook the readers from page one.
In this brief list of new titles, I only included those I have added to my bookshelf too. Since I’m almost ready to leave for a few weeks to enjoy the summer vibes with long walks on the beach and delicious ice creams, I can’t wait to switch between some romantic summer reads and the thrill of more twisted characters and stories.

Happy Reading!

Montauk (Review)

Montauk (Review)

by Nicola Harrison

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Publication Date: June 4, 2019
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Hardcover: 400 Pages

An epic and cinematic novel by debut author Nicola Harrison, Montauk captures the glamour and extravagance of a summer by the sea with the story of a woman torn between the life she chose and the life she desires.

Montauk, Long Island, 1938.

For three months, this humble fishing village will serve as the playground for New York City’s wealthy elite. Beatrice Bordeaux was looking forward to a summer of reigniting the passion between her and her husband, Harry. Instead, tasked with furthering his investment interest in Montauk as a resort destination, she learns she’ll be spending twelve weeks sequestered with the high society wives at The Montauk Manor―a two-hundred room seaside hotel―while Harry pursues other interests in the city.

College educated, but raised a modest country girl in Pennsylvania, Bea has never felt fully comfortable among these privileged women, whose days are devoted not to their children but to leisure activities and charities that seemingly benefit no one but themselves. She longs to be a mother herself, as well as a loving wife, but after five years of marriage she remains childless while Harry is increasingly remote and distracted. Despite lavish parties at the Manor and the Yacht Club, Bea is lost and lonely and befriends the manor’s laundress whose work ethic and family life stir memories of who she once was. What he won’t explain are the mysterious scents stored in the drawers that line the walls of their cabin, or the origin of the machine that creates them. As Emmeline grows, however, so too does her curiosity, until one day the unforeseen happens, and Emmeline is vaulted out into the real world–a place of love, betrayal, ambition, and revenge. To understand her past, Emmeline must unlock the clues to her identity, a quest that challenges the limits of her heart and imagination. Continue reading “The Scent Keeper (Review)”

Next Year In Havana

by Chanel Cleeton

With this book, Chanel Cleeton delivers a poignant, resonant, and unforgettable novel about love, painful losses, sacrifices, and courage at different times of the Cuban history thanks to an engaging narration that alternates memories of Elisa’s past and the present life of her granddaughter, Marisol.
After Elisa’s death, Marisol decides to honor her last wish and take Abuela’s ashes to Cuba, where her heart belonged. She arrives in Havana that is the same but also a completely different place from Elisa’s happy memories.
Marisol can perfectly recognize all the places her grandmother described along the years, but she also finds a country that pays the price of a totalitarian regime, from which her family escaped sixty years before.
