⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Second Chance Grill is the first installment in the Liberty Series penned by talented author Christine Nolfi.
Dr. Mary Chance needs a sabbatical from medicine to grieve the loss of her closest friend. But when she inherits a struggling restaurant in Liberty, Ohio she isn’t prepared for Blossom Perini. Mary can’t resist falling for the amusing preteen—or the girl’s father. The bond they forge will transform all their lives and set in motion an outpouring of love that spreads across America.

After the tragic loss of her best friend Sadie, Mary Chance inherits a restaurant from her aunt in Liberty. She’s pretty sure she will take a sabbatical year and make this restaurant a successful place, after that, she will go back to Cincinnati, return to her life and take over Sadie’s father practice.
But often plans could lead us to thousands of different directions which can often surprise us in amazing ways. And that’s exactly what happens to our lovely Mary.
Liberty, in fact, is not the conventional little town, it is more like a big family, where joy, sad and difficult situations are always shared, and although some characters seem bad in the beginning, they will surprise you in the end.
Though I’ve found a few slower parts during the narration, the reading was very engaging. I enjoyed the plot, and the characters are extremely well described and rounded.
I loved the solidarity, the importance of the family described in this novel, and also the stubbornness of our heroines (both Mary and Blossom). As we can see in this book, it’s very important to live with an open heart in order to see all the beautiful gifts of our lives, and even if plans give us a straight line to follow, love in all its forms is what makes us richer and happier. And Mary discovers her happiness far away from her initial project.
Second Chance Grill is the first book I read by Christine Nolfi and I really enjoyed it. Even if this is part of a series, it can read as a stand-alone.
